Disney Cruise Ships in Order of Age

Disney Cruise Lines started slowly in the cruising market, with its first ship debuting in 1998.

Until 2022, the fleet remained modest at only four ships. However, in the last few years, Disney has begun not only producing new ships faster than ever, already doubling the fleet in just two years, but also joining the competition in the production of Mega Ships, offering more and more attractions at sea, and carrying more passengers than ever.

While I tend to prefer smaller, more intimate ships, I must say the theming choices on DCL make it nearly impossible to resist booking sailings on their newest ships, too! I mean, a Haunted Mansion-themed bar? How am I supposed to resist that?

Let’s look at the age of the Disney Cruise Ships:

Disney Magic (1998)

The Disney Magic, the inaugural ship of Disney Cruise Line, combines classic elegance with modern amenities. It accommodates approximately 2,700 passengers and primarily sails from Miami, Florida. It offers Caribbean and European itineraries.

Onboard, guests enjoy the innovative rotational dining system at Rapunzels Royal Table, Lumieres, and Animators Palate.

Live Broadway-style shows, themed kids’ clubs, adult-only areas, and the Aqua Dunk water slide make the Magic… magical.

If you love a smaller ship, sailing on the Magic won’t disappoint you.

Disney Wonder (1999)

The Disney Wonder also holds around 2,700 passengers, sister ship to the Disney Magic. It offers diverse itineraries, including voyages to Alaska, the Pacific Coast, and the Caribbean, sailing from ports like Vancouver, British Columbia, and San Diego, California.

Highlights include Tiana’s Place restaurant, inspired by “The Princess and the Frog,” and the Frozen-themed stage show, “Frozen: A Musical Spectacular.”

I’ve recently sailed a trans-Pacific repositioning cruise on the Wonder, and while it is small, I really loved this ship. The French Quarter on board is themed to perfection, and there was plenty of character interaction as well.

The Rainforest Room on the Wonder is smaller, and not my favorite spa experience on DCL, but I felt the crew and overall theme was absolutely perfection.

Disney Dream (2011)

The Disney Dream, which can accommodate about 4,000 passengers, sails primarily from Port Canaveral, Florida. It offers Bahamian cruises, including stops at Disney’s private islands, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay.

Notable features include the AquaDuck water coaster, virtual portholes in interior staterooms, and the Enchanted Garden restaurant.

The Dream is larger than the Magic and the Wonder, but it is not so big that it feels overwhelming.

I recently returned from a Merry Time at Sea sailing on the Dream and found it to be a great ship. Its size was perfect for me, and there was more to do and more space than on smaller ships.

Disney Fantasy (2012)

Sister ship to the Disney Dream, the Disney Fantasy also accommodates around 4,000 passengers. It offers longer Caribbean itineraries departing from Port Canaveral.

Guests can enjoy the AquaLab water play area, the Midship Detective Agency interactive game, and themed dining experiences like Animator’s Palate, Royal Table, and Animators Palate.

This was my first Disney ship, and like the Dream, I enjoy this size of ship. I stayed in a family Verandah room on this ship and enjoyed its spacious layout. I’ve also stayed in a magic porthole room on this class of boats and found that to be a good experience.

The Disney Wish, the first of a new class of Disney ships, carries approximately 4,000 passengers. It sails from Port Canaveral and offers Bahamian cruises with stops at Castaway Cay.

Innovations include the AquaMouse attraction, Disney’s first-ever attraction at sea, and themed dining experiences inspired by Frozen and Marvel.

While I haven’t sailed on the Wish yet, I hear there is a little special magic that happens in the atrium at midnight, so it may be worth one late night to see the surprise!

Disney Treasure (2024)

The Disney Treasure, launched in December 2024, continues the tradition of enchanting voyages. It accommodates around 4,000 passengers and sails from Port Canaveral. It offers Caribbean itineraries.

Onboard, guests can explore the Haunted Mansion Parlor, inspired by the classic theme park attraction, and enjoy dining experiences like Plaza de Coco, which celebrates “Coco.”

Disney Destiny (2025)

Set to embark on its maiden voyage from Fort Lauderdale, Florida, in November 2025, the Disney Destiny will accommodate approximately 4,000 passengers. Its inaugural season includes 4- and 5-night cruises to The Bahamas and the Caribbean, with stops at Disney’s private islands, Castaway Cay and Lookout Cay at Lighthouse Point.

The ship will feature experiences inspired by Disney heroes and villains, offering immersive entertainment and dining options.

Disney Adventure (2025)

The Disney Adventure, Disney Cruise Line’s largest ship, can accommodate up to 6,000 passengers and will begin sailing from Singapore in December 2025. It will explore destinations throughout Southeast Asia, offering guests immersive experiences across seven themed zones, including the Imagination Garden and Marvel Landing.

The ship will also feature over 20 dining and beverage options, providing a diverse culinary journey for all ages.
